Civil Services (PREL) Exam, 2012

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is to conduct examinations for recruitment to the services of the Union. The Chairman and other members of the UPSC are recruitment through the President of India. Union Public Service Commission will carry on a Preliminary Examination of the Civil Services Examination for recruitment to the Services and posts following. Civil Services Prelims Exam Syllabus 2012

Paper I – (200 marks)
Duration: Two hours

Indian and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic geography of India and the World.
Current events of national and international importance
Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
History of India and Indian National Movement
Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty,
General Science.
General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization

Paper II- (200 marks)
Duration: Two hours

Comprehension
General mental ability
Decision making and problem solving
Logical reasoning and analytical ability
Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc.) (Class X level)
Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. -Class X level)
English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level).

Civil Services Examination stages -

(i) Civil Services Preliminary Examination (Objective type) for the selection of candidates for the Main Examination; and

(ii) Civil Services Main Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the various Services and posts .

Educational Eligibility – Union Public Service Commission Civil Services (Main) Exam, 2011 education eligibility candidate should have Bachelor degree in any fields from any recognized University and only Indian Candidates apply.
